Bathroom door accident

Can you guess what this is? What's that you say, the tip of a toddlers thumb? Why yes! How did you know? Well, if you haven't heard by now, we had a pretty traumatic experience a week ago. It was a typical Saturday morning. I was getting ready to go to a baby shower and Eric was in the shower. Taylee shut the bathroom door suddenly and a second later I heard a loud scream. I quickly opened the door and as I was walking out to get Lilly, who was crying, out of the corner of my eye I spotted a pink blob stuck to the hinge side of the door. I pealed it off the door but had no idea what it was. When I got to Lilly I picked her up and saw she had blood gushing from her thumb! I then knew what it was I was holding in my hand, the top of her thumb! I started screaming for Eric.

The next 5 minutes were a blur of panic. We put pressure on Lilly's thumb to try and stop the bleeding and put the thumb tip on ice and drove to the emergency room. Poor Taylee didn't know what was going on and was scared to see blood all over Lilly, the floor, me and Eric.

We were in a huge rush to get to the hospital and when we finally got there we had to wait in a line for over 20 minutes! I was getting real ancy and was confused as to why people weren't so concerned as I was with my baby, and her hand wrapped in a bloody towel.

It all turned out fine though and after 3 hours we finally left the hospital. We were worried that maybe she might have broken her thumb, because we could see the top of the bone poking out, but luckily it wasn't. She had a very slight fracture but the doctor said it would heal in 3 weeks or so. The didn't stitch the tip back on because babies are like salamanders (that was the analogy he used) and they regrow tissue fast and that it would completely heal.

This picture was taken Friday, a week after the accident happened. They cut her cast off at the hospital and now she only has to wear a splint. I couldn't believe how much of her thumb had already grown back! It looks so so much better than before.

Little Fishing Trip

About 5 minutes away from our apartment there is a lake called Lake Del Valle that is supposed to have some pretty good fishing this time of year, so the last 2 Saturdays I took a hike to the lake to see what I could catch. Taylee went with me one of these times.

I caught a Trout and a Bass.

Taylee enjoyed playing in the mud.

There was a huge Taranchula that I saved from drowning in the water. I've heard that Taranchulas are pretty common around the lake.

After climbing back up the hill from the lake we took a little rest on this bench and then hiked back down the other side of the hill. We had a pretty good time, especially Taylee who got to ride piggy back most of the way.

HALLOWEEN

This year we picked out our pumpkins from the store . Taylee wasn't to keen on this idea especially since she saw others filling up their wagons with pumpkins at the Farm, but I couldn't bring myself to pay for overpriced pumpkins. Once we convinced her that the store pumpkins were much bigger than the farms, she didn't mind too much.

Lilly found a small pumpkin, her perfect size and once she had it in her arms there was no getting it back from her. We let the girls color them with markers, but Taylee got bored of that this year and wanted to do some real cutting. Lilly didn't last too long either before she decided the markers were much more fun to eat than draw with.

Taylee wanted to be a princess for Halloween so we pulled out her costume from last year and it still fit her perfectly (thanks once again Mom ) We made Lilly the tooth fairy since she has been collecting teeth like crazy in her own mouth. She really knows how to use them too, unfortunately in a bad way since Taylee has become a victim of her bite.

If you're wondering what it is that Lilly is chewing on, its a crayon. Which really doesn't surprise me . . . that girl is always eating things she's not supposed to.

The girls got way too much candy!! Apparently there weren't vary many kids out this year so all the houses we went to in our neighborhood gave out handfuls of candy. I'm so glad that most of it is gone now, and Taylee isn't asking me all the time for candy. And if Lilly has terrible teeth when she gets older I know why. She has had so much more sweets than Taylee ever did as a 1 year old. I don't think that Taylee knew what candy was at that age . Oh how things change with the second

child.

Farm Day

This year we took the girls to the Farm here in Livermore, which I didn't even know existed until this year. We used to drive up to Tracy and spend a day messing around at the Farm there, but most of the stuff costs money and its always too hot! The Farm here was small but the girls both had fun. Lilly fell asleep on the drive there, which is weird because it wasn't even close to nap time, she was just extra tired I guess. Eric carried her around on his shoulder for the first half hour until the cows awakened her.

Taylee was in heaven being pulled around in the wagons.

She had a grand old time playing in the Hay Maze.

"This one's Mine!"

There was a sand box for the kids to play in, except instead of the box being filled with sand, it was filled with Dried corn kernals. The girls loved it.

Tahoe Vacation

A few weeks ago Eric and I were able to take a trip TOGETHER up to Tahoe. It was wonderful! As much as we love our sweet girly's it was nice to go somewhere with just the two of us. I especially loved not having to pack: diapers, wipes, snacks, sippy cups, binky, blankie, stroller... I could go on. Good ol Grandma (as Taylee would say) was able to come up and spend the week with the girls while we were gone. They had lots of fun with Grandma so we didn't feel to bad leaving them behind.

On one of the trails we hiked we kept seeing towers of rocks along the way, so we left our mark as well.

Eric was very puzzled by the concrete in this tree.

We spent a day fishing along the Truckee River but had to end early because a thunderstorm came later in the afternoon (which I didn't mind too much I was ready to be done fishing).

Eric thinks that sometimes I look like a 12 year old in pictures taken of me, apparently this picture happens to be one of those times.

Art Project

I've wanted to put a large painting in our living room for quite a while, but painings are so expensive. So I comissioned some cheap labor to do it for me.We got wood and braces from Home Depot to make the frame ($8) and canvas fabric ($6), brushes ($6), and acrylic paint ($8) from Walmart. After a total of $28 and 3 hours of work, we ended up with this masterpiece, which hangs over our living room couch.

July Camping Trip

This past week we went on our annual Hagberg Family Camping Trip. Normally we've gone up to Fort Bragg and camped on the beach, but this year we decided to hang out in the woods. We went to Zions Camp; it use to be the girls camp for the girls in Eric's homeward stake, but now anyone can reserve it. The camp ground was so nice, I loved it! We were surrounded by trees so it was always shady, it had an indoor kitchen, bathrooms and showers, and a big stream filled pond, and there were even paddle boats to use. The only negative would have to be the mosquitoes that had quite the feast on us while we were there. Taylee wouldn't let us spray her face very well so she came home looking like she had the chicken pox.

Here are some pictures of our trip, though I realized we didn't take that many. We are terrible at remembering to get the camera out!

Eric enjoyed himself fishing and was actually able to catch some fish. Though he admits most of them were pretty small. On our last day he caught a rainbow trout and felt he needed to eat it, so he did.

One day we headed up to Bullards Bar Reservoir to have a picnic and did some swimming in the lake.

Fishing Trip at Putah Creek

While we were in Utah we brought back all my fishing gear and even got some some extra stuff for Eric to use. So we decided we would take a family fishing trip, we didn't catch anything though (just memories, and a tick).

Eric went to buy his fishing license at Walmart early that morning before we left and I guess couldn't resist getting this little pink princess fishing pole for Taylee. She absolutely loved it and thought it was so fun to fish.

Taylee was walking along the path by the river bank and wanted to get a little closer to the water. She went to step on what she though was still land, but actually was the edge of the water. She fell in and immediately started to scream. Luckily it was only 2 feet deep, but it was a scary experience.

The little opening next to the bank is where Taylee fell in.

4th of July in Utah

This year for the fourth of July we decided to head to Utah! We left Friday night at 8 o'clock and got to South Jordan at around 9 in the morning. Eric and I took turns driving while the other slept (tried to sleep) and the girls slept mostly the whole way. The only problem we had was when Taylee woke up as we stopped to get gas and thought we were at Grandma's house already, so she of course woke up her sister. Lilly did not appreciate getting woken up and cried for a good hour on and off as we tried to get her back to sleep. Though overall I thought the drive went pretty smooth.

On the 4th we headed to Copperton Park where every year they have races to compete in and the winners receive cash! As a kid growing up we went every year with all my extended family ever since I can remember, so it was fun to finally come back this year and introduce the tradition to Eric and the girls.

Kennecott Utah Copper Mine

We stopped at the Kennecott Utah Copper Mine on the way home from the races since Eric had never seen it before. It's quite the amazing site to see if you've never been there before.

On the way home back to California we stopped on the side of the road to see the salt flats.

The long 12 hour ride Home

The drive home went much better than we had expected. Lilly slept for a lot of the trip, and only had a breakdown on the last 30 minutes of the drive. Apparently 11 1/2 hours in the car is her max, 12 is just pushing it.

Taylee's Dance Performance

Taylee has been taking dance classes from a small studio here in livermore for a while now. She loves going to class every week and even pretends to be the teacher to Lilly and I (though Lilly never cooperates how she wants her to). A few weeks ago she had her first dance performance at the Fair. I was unsure if she would dance or even go up on the stage by herself, but apparently I underestimated her. She did a really great job! I of course was smiling the whole time she was dancing and will even admit got a bit teary-eyed. Here is a video of one of the dances she did.

MINI GARDEN

We decided that we wanted to have a garden this year in our "yard" (that's what we call our 5'x12' balcony patio) So Eric drew up a design for a space saving hanging strawberry tower and a planter box. We went to home depot and bought the materials we needed and built the planters. I think the material to build the boxes and buy the plants cost us more than it would been have to buy already grown vegetables and fruits, but its the experience that counts right? And it also made for a few fun nights of Family Home Evening.
Once the boxes were done, we planted strawberries, red peppers, green beans, tomatoes, basil, cilantro and lettuce. Can't wait till they start to grow!

This is Eric's 3D model he drew before building the tower. We'll see if they actually grow well in here.

A park in the woods

Eric had to visit a side job client on Saturday out in Larkspur which is all the way across the bay. I decided the girls and I would accompany him and make a day trip out of it. We played at a park that was near a lake while Eric met with his client. We then decided to do some exploring and found this neat park surrounded by big Redwoods with a stream flowing through. I sure do love our adventure days, we never know what we will find.

Lilly will be five months in a week. She has grown so so much. At her four month check-up she weighed 15 lbs 11 oz, and was 25 1/2 inches long. She's in the 90% for her height and weight. Her doctor said she is the size of a healthy 6 month old. She may be hard to hold but certainly not hard to love!
"Best of Friends" That is how Taylee describes her relationship with Lilly. She often wraps her arm around Lilly and says "we are best of friends mom." Eric sure does love being surrounded by girls! I'm sure this won't be the last tea party he attends.

So this is our little humble Christmas tree, it's only about 3 feet tall. We haven't ever wanted to spend money on a big, real Christmas tree since we are never at our own house to celebrate Christmas. So this little fella is what we use. Though it is an upgrade from our first Christmas tree we had for our first Christmas being married; it was only a foot tall. It actually is the perfect size for Taylee to decorate, and she put up all the ornaments herself this year.

I realized as I was going through our pictures that we have basically zero of Christmas. I don't even have a picture of the finished tree! So sad!! We did use our video camera quite a bit though so at least I do have some Christmas documented.

Taylee got this cute kitchen for Christmas. Since we were going to be in Gridley this year we let her open it early so we wouldn't have to set it up there and take it home in the car. We started after she went to bed, and as you can see by the clock it was a late night. (12:35) Her face was priceless when she saw it in the morning. (again, no pictures ahhh! We did record it though)
She absolutely loves the kitchen! There isn't a day that goes by where I haven't been brought something that was prepared in her kitchen.

Our growing Lilly

Lilly is 2 months old now and has grown quite a bit. At her 2 month check-up she weighed 12lbs 11oz and was 23 inches long! She's in the 90th percentile for her weight and 75th for her height. She is such a sweet cuddly baby and we love her so much.

Halloween

Here we are carving pumpkins for our family home evening activity. Taylee is coloring on her white pumpkin that she picked out at the farm. Later she grabbed the carving tools and gave her pumpkin some good pokes and stabs.

Looking pretty spooky!

Taylee was Cinderella this year for Halloween. My mom made this costume for her and did a fabulous job I might add. Since Halloween was on a Sunday this year, our stake put together a trunk-or-treat for the kids. It was a lot of fun and Taylee finished with her pumpkin full of delicious treats.

Last year we took a day trip to the Del' Osso Family farm, so we decided to carry on the tradition this year. Here are some pictures of our visit. Now that Lilly is using up the stroller Taylee was seat less. Normally we have her walk but sometimes she gets so distracted with things around her that she stops every five seconds to look at something. So we propped her up on top of the stroller, which she of course loved!

Taylee got to ride a pony at the fair when we were in Utah this past summer and talked about it all the time. So, she was so excited when she saw this ride.

The Past Month

We have started to potty train Taylee and it hasn't been going so well. So far she has gone potty on the carpet, the kitchen tile, (2 times) the bathroom tile, and the porch. Only one time has she actually gone on the toilet. I guess we shouldn't be complaining after only 1 day, but that's a lot of pee to clean up and new underwear to change! She tells me she has to go potty so we go into the bathroom to try and she will sit for a while but will never go. She hasn't grasped the concept yet, but I'm hoping for better results this week, we shall see.
Here she is reading the latest issue of Garden Design Magazine. When she sat down she said "I need book Mama."
Last Monday we took a drive to Fairfield California to take a tour at the Jelly Belly Factory. The tour was actually not that interesting because the factory workers were off that day so they weren't producing anything. But we sure did eat a lot of free jelly belly's, and came home with quite a bit too.

Who says you can't get out the Halloween carving tools in July! We decided this should be our new 4th of July Tradition: Watermelon Carving!

Camping in Fort Bragg CA

We took a family camping trip last week in Fort Bragg, California. The first day was a little wet while we set up camp, but the rest of the weekend was great. Here are some pictures from our fun family trip!

Making breakfast....

We found a nasty Banana Slug on our tent the first morning.

We went to a beach called GLASS BEACH, that has a bunch of old water washed glass pieces mixed in with the rocks. We found a bunch of cool shells too.

Later that night we went to the beach again as the tide and fog rolled in.

Taylee kept pointing to this rock and saying "Jesus Christ" so we took a picture of it.

On the drive home we stopped at this little meadow area for lunch. We went down to the creek that was nearby that Taylee loved to throw rocks and play in.

A little frog swam right up to Taylee when she was picking up rocks by the creek so we caught it. She was holding it, but dropped it before I could get a picture, and then she wouldn't hold it again.

Random Stuff From the Past Few Months

Taylee turned 2 in April!!

We went to Six Flags while my brother and his friends were up visiting us. Taylee loved the rides until Eric took her on a small roller coaster that went way to fast for her, and after that she didn't want to ride anymore.

It was a long day, as you can tell. Taylee fell asleep about five minutes into the drive home.

A Saturday Morning Hiking Adventure

One thing we love about Livermore is the fact that a few minutes away from our home are beautiful wide open fields and rolling hills. We woke up Saturday morning and got ready to go on a hike which oversees Lake Del Valle.

Taylee had an easy ride as you can see. We tried to get her to walk for some of the way but she decided that wasn't as fun. Being pregnant sure slows ya down.

It sure is a beautiful view once you get to the top.

This year for Easter we decided to take the easier route, paint paper eggs instead of real ones. Taylee loves doing crafts and anything invloving paint.

A Warm Sunday Afternoon

After Church we started up the BBQ (using the new BBQ stand of Course) and grilled up some chicken. Taylee got started on lunch a little early. She likes to eat the BBQ sauce or "dip-dip" as she calls it.

Then we took a little trip to the park.

MY CREATION

We bought a little propane BBQ a few weeks ago but it was a bit of a pain to cook on because it was so low to the ground and our patio light is pretty dim, so I could never see what I was cooking. So I went to Home Depot, bought some wood and made a nice little stand for it. Taylee tested it for durability.I put it to use right away as you can see.

And the BBQ even tucks nicely underneath for storage. I'm pretty proud of it.

Telletubby Land???

No, this isn't the new set for Telletubbies. We are at the "Green Roof" at the California Academy of Natural Sciences and History Museum in San Francisco. Traci and I have wanted to go for a long time so we took a day trip there a couple weeks ago and had a great time.

This is what I will look like (and feel like) by August. Yep-baby number 2 is on the way. Yippee! However, I have not been enjoying the morning sickness which started a couple weeks ago. I have been having a hard time wanting to eat anything, especially if I have to cook it. But, that will be over soon... at least that's how it worked last time.

Since I've been feeling sick the past couple of weeks I have Eric really help out with the cooking. Yesterday for Taylee's lunch he went to the fridge with her and asked her what she wanted to eat. She pointed to Cheese, BBQ sauce, and Pickles. So Eric took it as an Iron Chef challenge using those 3 secret ingredients. "Let the Battle Begin!"

This is what he came up with: A Grilled cheese sandwich chopped into bite sized pieces, sliced pickles and BBQ dipping sauce, all nicely displayed on a plate. Taylee was a tough judge but gave full points for presentation.

Eric isn't the only one we have to hide the olives from, Taylee would eat a whole can if she had the chance. She of course eats them one by one placing them individually on her fingers.

Christmas Vacation

Christmas Vacation was GREAT! We spent a week and a half in Utah with my family and did a lot of fun stuff. We went snowboarding, sledding, drove to Rexburg, visited the newly remodeled BYU-I campus, celebrated our 3 year anniversary, went to the Salt lake Temple, etc. However, we were horrible at taking picture. The pictures below are 3 of 6 that we took on Christmas morning, and are the only pictures we took that whole vacation. Oh well, sometimes you have to choose between enjoying your vacation and remembering your vacation.

Christmas Lights at the Temple

We went to the lighting of the Oakland Temple last week. It was pretty cool. All of the lights were off and then...right at 7:30 they all turned on at once. The pictures turned out a little blurry.

One morning we went into to get Taylee and found her asleep like this. It was so hilarious. I can't believe how big she is getting. She wont be able to fit in her crib before long.

Halloween

This year was the First Halloween that Taylee was old enough to really participate in.

We picked out our pumpkins and began the carving.

No knives for you Taylee- stick with the Crayola Markers.

Then we lit our candles and our pumpkins came to life.

There's no bad luck with this little black kitty cat.

We hit the streets prowling for candy. Taylee was pretty timid at first, but once she realized there was candy involved she warmed right up to strangers.

Then we came home and Taylee enjoyed a bit of her rewards (Mom and Dad enjoyed some too.)
She sure has changed a lot since last Halloween. Here is a picture from last year of her as an angel.

Our Fall Saturday Adventure

We took a little trip this Saturday and headed east of the bay to visit the Dell' Osso Family Farms in Lathrop. On the way we passed the windmill farms just east of our home in Livermore. Apparently it is the largest windmill farm in the U.S. (kinda neat!)We stopped at an outlet mall along the way to check out the bargains. Eric found some much needed work attire for some great deals!

After our shopping adventure we headed over to the Dell' Osso Family Farms. This farm is so great, it has a corn maze, train rides, pony rides, pumpkins, and much more. What a great place for kids!

Some nice big tires to climb on, though Taylee would rather just observe everyone else. She's content with just picking up the sand and rocks.

We went into the petting zoo to check out the farm animals.

You can't complete a trip to the farm without a snapshot of putting your head in place of a pig's.

After the farms we stopped at the Ghirardelli Chocolate (and ice cream) Outlet. It is a huge building so we were expecting to walk into a huge warehouse of rows and rows of discounted chocolate. Instead we walked into a small store with a few shelves of chocolate, but they were cheap and delicious. (Taylee looks really excited to be here, but really she's pointing to a bird in the sky) Oh, the simple things. After arriving back home we feasted on some spaghetti, Taylee's favorite. As you can see, she quite enjoyed it.

We had a lot of fun at Grandma Hagberg's house this Fourth. We spent our days relaxing in the pool, playing with kittens, and of course making homemade ice cream.

A couple weeks ago my Mom and two of my brothers came up to visit. We had a lot of fun. My brothers loved the beach so we spent a lot of time there. We got to explore many different beaches along the coast. What a great week!All of us in our wetsuits.Uncle Jared feeding her some of his cereal.

For Taylee's birthday my mom got her this cute little chair. Taylee loves to sit in it and read her stories. What a sweet girl!

For Taylee's birthday we decided to make her an elmo cake. We thought it turned out pretty good considering we've never done one before.

At first she wasn't sure what to do and she mostly just rubbed her hands in the frosting.

By the end she got the hang of it and dove right in. The result, a completly destoyed cake, what a mess!

Yesterday, Eric opened up one of the cupboards in the kitchen and found this...

He then asked me why I put elmo in the cupboard, and I had no idea what he was talking about. We of course figured the only other person that could have done this was Taylee. I thought it was so hilarious that she would put him in here. At least she's started to try to put her toys away, she just doesn't have the destination quite right yet.

Lately she has become really attached to this elmo doll. She says hi to it whenever she sees it and loves carrying it around. It is a pretty cute little doll he says all sorts of things when you squeeze his tummy.

Is there anything cuter than that face? Grandma Hagberg gave Taylee these sunglasses when she was only a couple months old, and they just now fit on her face. She's ready to hit the beach!

A couple of weeks ago Eric went to BYU-Idaho with his company to interview and talk with the students. Since he was going to be gone I thought it would be the perfect opportunity for me to visit my family in Utah. Taylee had lots of fun with her grandma. Thanks for flying us out mom.

Taylee Walking???

Hey everyone! Traci and I had a little bet about when Taylee would first walk on her own. I said that she would be able to do it by January 14th, and Traci predicted her walking by the 29th. We never did specifiy what would be considered as "walking" but we will let you be the judge. This video was taken January 11th.

Our apartment complex held a door decoration contest for Christmas. Prizes were to be awarded so we figured we'd give it a shot. We came up with a great idea and went to work decorating. What did we create?...A MASTERPIECE!!!- Which won us first place - $100!

Thanksgiving in Gridley

This year we celebrated Thanksgiving in Gridley. Before the big meal we went to the park and made Kaleb be our photographer (good job Kaleb!)

We forgot to bring a football so we made do with what we had- Taylee's Elmo toy (the red thing flying in the air).

Taylee loved the McDaniel's tree swing in their backyard. Her face says it all.

Friday was Taylee's first Halloween!!! Of course she's only 6 months old, so she didn't do any Trick-or-treating, but we did decide to dress her up in a home-made halloween costume. So- within a half hours time we came up with an idea for a costume, found some scraps around the house to make it, dressed her in it, took pictures, removed the costume and then put her to bed for a nap.

A couple weeks ago we went to Lake Elizabeth which is near our house. The lake is filled with ducks and geese, Taylee really enjoyed watching them swim around.

Taylee surprises me everyday with something new she's learned to do.

Last week I put her in her crib for bed and left the room thinking she would fall asleep like she usually does. I heard her making noises and babbling to herself and then it was silent. After about ten minutes I went into her room to put away the laundry thinking she was already asleep. However, when I opened the door I was surprised to see her head poking out of the crib and a big grin on her face when she saw me. She was standing all on her own! I couldn't believe it, she's not even six months old yet. Now she tries to use anything that is sturdy and graspable to lift herself up.

4 Months Old!

Taylee is now 4 months old! I can't believe how fast it's gone and how big she's gotten. She is such a happy baby and will smile at anyone. She 's been able to roll over for a month now, and the minute I put her on the ground she rolls to her tummy. She has started to sit up on her own as well and can usually hold herself up for about ten seconds or so. She puts her hands in front of her and uses them to support herself, it's so cute!

On Sunday we took a family trip to the Oakland Temple. It was pretty chilly so we didn't hang around for too long. We left Fremont with blue skies and before we got to Oakland the skies were grey. But still, it was a nice little Sunday trip.

We took a little trip to Santa Cruz to get away from the heat. Unfortunatly we didnt bring any cash except for $2 so we could only buy 2 hours of time on the parking meter. Thats okay though- Taylee was ready to go after about an hour and a half.

Our first week has been pretty good here in Fremont. The weather has been nice-not too hot and a little breezy. Eric has enjoyed work so far and his first design (a $50,000 project) sold the day after he designed it. I've been keeping busy getting things unpacked and becoming familiar with the area. Taylee keeps me pretty busy too and she is smiling more and more each day.
